Become a Volunteer
If you are interested in volunteering with Hope Gardens, come out for a Hope Gardens Workday! Our workdays are held every Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm (noon) at the garden, located on 2200 Homestead Road in Chapel Hill.
Information for Volunteers
Volunteers must wear appropriate clothing (including clothes that can get dirty and closed toed shoes), bring any water they want in a personal water bottle, and complete our Volunteer Agreement Form.
For Large Groups: If you are looking to bring a group to volunteer at Hope Gardens, please submit our Volunteer Group Request Form and we will check our availability to host you. Have a specific project in mind or an idea that you would like to discuss? Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org!
For CHCCS students and Volunteers for Youth: One week in advance of your first workday with Hope Gardens, please email email@example.com. An emergency contact form must be filled out by a parent before you can volunteer. Have your parents drop you off at the garden at 10:00 am and pick you up promptly at 12:00 pm. Student staff members neither have the capacity to remain at the Gardens past 12:00pm nor to drive children home.
This summer we had a great number of volunteers at the garden helping out during the workdays. An organization that stood out was Volunteers for Youth, a local non-profit that provides programming for area youth. Thank you to all the of the young people of our community that came out to the garden during summer vacation! When each school year begins in the late August, Hope Gardens sees an influx of volunteers from campus and the community! Some of the groups that have visited include UNC’s Business Fraternity Delta Sigma Phi, APPLES Service Learning, Carolina Scholars, Sangam, Hillel Social Justice Group, Blue Ribbon Mentoring, Scholars Outreach, Odum Village RHA, UNITAS, Kappa Delta Sorority, and students from Chapel Hill-Carborro schools. Thanks to their continued support, the garden has remained successful.
