Each semester, Hope Gardens hosts a community picnic. During the UNC calendar year, these picnics usually take place from 12 – 2pm, after the workday from 10am – 12pm. We ask that community members and students bring food to contribute if they are able. We give tours of the garden, and there is often an activity, such as bird feeder painting or picnic table building!
We love the picnics because they serve as a time to gather and make friends over delicious food. We enjoy bringing people together in a beautiful space and promoting relationships between people that may not have otherwise met.
Check our Events Calendar to find the next upcoming Picnic. Gather up some friends and family and we hope to see you there!
Hope Cooks is a weekly nutritional cooking project that delivers produce to low-income members and promotes healthy lifestyles through education and support. This participatory class supports community members as they sustain their transitions out of poverty by providing a space to share knowledge and skills while supplying organically grown produce from Hope Gardens.
Each week, our team leads participants in a casual cooking session where every participant contributes ideas, suggestions, and even critiques throughout the meal. At the end of each class, our participants receive a bag of the Hope Gardens produce that was used in the meal as well as the recipe for that meal so that they can re-create the recipe at home.
